The Neonatal ICU at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children is part of the largest delivering hospital in the state of Alabama. As the only Level III NICU in North Alabama, our unit is designated by the state as the Regional Referral Center for NICU care. This means that infants born in hospitals throughout our region are transported here to receive critical, lifesaving medical care. We are a 55 bed licensed unit, with an open bay layout with 3 different alcoves, we also have a Kids Care Transport Team, and the only state-certified infant nutrition lab in North Alabama where many of our babies' feedings are carefully and securely prepared by specially trained staff.. We collaborate with many disciplines including Respiratory therapist, family support liaison, registered dietitians, therapy services (speech, physical, occupational, and music), trained child life specialist, pharmacy, and lactation nurses.
The Neonatal RN is skilled in providing critical care to premature and sick newborns. In addition to providing around-the-clock care to these patients, NICU RNs offer support to the parents, requiring effective communication skills regarding the plan of care and scope of treatment of the patient. The NICU RN will work as a team member with providers and ancillary staff. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that a newborns critical care treatment is secure. The RN maintains established standards of care, policies, objective, and goals in administering professional nursing care to all patients. The RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment. The RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs. The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift. RN must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently.
Performs internal audits of hospital accounts; processes routine insurance audits; audits accounts as requested by patients; performs audits of accounts to separate medical charges from elective cosmetic surgery procedures; manual charge entry/credit for Pharmacy discrepancies; charge correction and billing requirements for Medical Oncology accounts, provide written appeals for RAC and non-RAC denials.

Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff the Health Care Assistant(HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally assists staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Performs Radiology procedures in accordance with policies and standards in effect for the Radiology Department. Cooperates and works effectively with fellow Radiology employees and other members of the healthcare team. Exemplifies professionalism in working with all outside health agencies, physicians offices and outpatients. Prepares and maintains patient records.
Acts as a collaborative member of the clinical team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Initiates patient care assessments, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens. Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family. Returns patient phone calls and utilizes radiographic techniques to obtain diagnostic images.
The RN indentifies patient needs and prioritizes care based on continuous assessment, executes therapeutic physician orders and therapeutic nursing interventions. The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift.

In partnership with the RN, the Psychiatric Tech provides direct care to patients (adolescents to elderly). Provides basic comfort measures, collects data to contribute to the plan of care and carries out interventions at the direction of the RN.
Operates X-Ray Equipment to make radiographs of designated anatomical area. Responsibilities include knowledge of all x-ray equipment, proper patient positioning, exposures, digital image management for interpretations, implementation of patient charges, and assists physician as required. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and radiologist, performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement. Responsibilities include knowledge of all Mammography / Radiology procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, Utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required, or set forth. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
