The Patient Care Aide(PCA) works under the direction of the RN/LPN. The responsibilities of the Patient Care Aide include providing direct patient care and maintaining patient care standards. Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff the Health Care Assistant(HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally assists staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

  The 3W&C Surgical Unit at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus offers a challenging workflow for the staff. This adult surgical floor receives a variety of patients that includes GYN, GYN Oncology, Breast Cancer, Postpartum, low risk Antepartum, ENT, Plastics, Pain, Ortho, and Ocular diagnoses.  LPN orientation consists of working with an experienced RN and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. New PCA & HCA’s are orientated by experienced unit PCA’s & HCA’s and length of orientation is dependent on each new employee. The clinical staff is trained to care for the post-op adult as well as adult medical patients.  The staff on 3WSE works closely with health care providers to provide excellent care and compassion to their customers. Our staff has the opportunity to participate in Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder programs, and CEU offerings available online & at Corporate University.The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs a broad array of nursing tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider. The individual provides direct patient care for diverse patient populations that vary in gender, age, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, locations, sexual lifestyle, and racial and ethnic background. The LPN implements technical nursing procedures according to established policies and procedures and plan of care, assists and reinforces routine patient education, and documents patient care appropriately.  The LPN communicates and interacts with other team members to facilitate teamwork and delivery of quality care.

The Child Life Specialist identifies the psychosocial needs of the pediatric patient and provides activities that are developmentally appropriate to satisfy those needs.  Executes therapeutic and recreational activities and evaluates the patient’s response/progress toward normal age and appropriate behavior.  Schedules volunteers to ensure smooth operation of the Child Life Program during the daytime hours.  Act as liaison for activities from the community.

The Registered Nurse (RN) new graduate will be part of a 6-week or longer as need determines Internship Program. The new grad will orient on each unit doing three 12- hour shifts until rotating through the specific Service Line (SL) units. The new grad and mentor will work together to care for patients and develop a nursing foundation and skills necessary for positive patient outcomes. Upon program completion, the new grad will choose a SL unit he or she wants to be hired to and complete unit-specific orientation.  The position will allow for expanding current nursing knowledge and skills and provide numerous opportunities for growth and further development.

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and radiologist, performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement. Responsibilities include knowledge of all Mammography / Radiology procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, Utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required, or set forth. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

 The Scrub Assistant, under the guidance of the RN provides services to surgical patients, maintaining an aseptic environment.  The scrub assistant assists in the transporting of patients.
