The RN Surgery Outpatient identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment. Provides quality nursing care to the patient in the Imaging Services department. Identifies patient needs and priorities for care and the attainment of /or progress towards patient outcomes. Coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed.

The nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.

Provides diagnostic quality images for MRI. Provides a safe environment for patients and staff.

The nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling.  Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research if applicable, program development, and quality improvement.  Assists in clerical functions as necessary.

Performs ultrasonography procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision.  Uses independent judgment ingenuity and initiative to perform state-of-the art diagnostic ultrasound procedures.  

Assists the clinical pharmacists in providing an accurate and timely medication distribution system.

Prepares and serves nutritional food items for cafeteria and patient tray line.  Ensures cleanliness of dining areas, utensils, equipment, and adheres to local/state health department standards.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employee, customers, and the general public.

Job Summary Oversees and coordinates individual studies on day-to-day basis.

Provides professional nursing care for office patients following established standards and procedures.

Prepares patients for surgery by performing diagnostic test required by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, documenting past medical/surgical history and current home medications and reporting abnormal results to the appropriate person (surgeon, nurse practitioner, anesthesia evaluator, etc.).  The pre-admission RN also prepares patients for the cath lab and other hospital admissions.

Performs peripheral vascular and/or echocardiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Uses independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to perform state-of-the art diagnostic ultrasound procedures. Administers medications as prescribed and under the supervision of a physician.

Assist the coordinators and director in Clinical Research activities which consist of patient work up, phlebotomy, process and shipping of labs and working within the study database to enter clinical study data.  Assisting the coordinator in duties that will help them be more efficient.      Demonstrates through behavior Huntsville Hospital’s mission, vision and values as outlined in this document, Employee Handbook and the Power of Excellence.
