Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children is proud to be the highest delivering hospital in the state of Alabama as well as the regional referral center for North Alabama and southern Tennessee. RNs on our 38 bed Mother/Baby unit provide family centered couplet care. Shortly after delivery, a dedicated team of nurses help mom and baby with skin-to-skin bonding and breastfeeding. The Mother Baby unit allows for rooming-in, lactation support, and designated quiet hours.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is an 11 bed ICU that cares for critically ill children at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children. The PICU is staffed by RNs, NPs, and Pediatric Intensivist who work closely together with a supportive multidisciplinary care team to provide acute care to children from 0-18 years of age. We offer a progressive educational program to train staff in pediatric critical care to include monthly inservices from our physicians. AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit at the Women/Children campus. The AICU offers a challenging workflow for RN’s. AICU receives a variety of patients that includes primarily critical Medical patients, but also Antepartum, Postpartum, GYN Oncology, GYN, ENT, and any adult patient at WC that requires intensive monitoring. Women and Children’s Float Pool provides nursing and tech support to clinical areas within Women and Children’s Hospital. Our nurses focus on the medical needs and treatment of a broad range of ages from newborn to adults. A thorough orientation is provided on Mother/Baby, Pediatrics, PICU, Women’s surgery and RNICU.
