Job Summary  Acts as collaborative member of the clinical team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Responsible for registration, insurance verification, scheduling, and answering of telephone. Initiates patient care assessments, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens.  Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family.  Returns patient phone calls.

The Scrub Assistant, under the guidance of the RN provides services to surgical patients, maintaining an aseptic environment.  The scrub assistant assists in the transporting of patients.

Prepares patients for surgery by performing diagnostic test required by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, documenting past medical/surgical history and current home medications and reporting abnormal results to the appropriate person (surgeon, nurse practitioner, anesthesia evaluator, etc.).  The pre-admission RN also prepares patients for the cath lab and other hospital admissions.

The Student Nurse Aide works under the direction of the RN/LPN. The responsibilities of the Student Nurse include providing direct patient care standards. The COPD Coordinator will work in collaboration with all members of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity of care relating to patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The Medical Records Technician II develops and/or supports Medical Record Department processes to include but not limited to chart analysis, physician deficiency management, workflow engineering, and productivity standard creation and monitoring.  Tasked with reviewing medical records for provider deficiencies, the technician enters and monitors assigned deficiencies via the hospital EMR.  Performs medical record audits to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards

The Vital Statistics Technician: - Complete or assist with birth certificates and/or required data abstraction for entry into the State of Alabama database system EVERS. - Complete or assist with death certificates in State of Alabama EDR for Huntsville Hospital deaths according to Center for Vital Statistics guidelines. - Other medical record departmental duties as assigned

The practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice, including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
