The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs a broad array of nursing tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist in the state of Alabama, a pharmacy intern may perform the following tasks: monitor drug therapy to improve patient outcome and quality of care; recommend rational and cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic alternatives and provide accurate and efficient medication distribution; implement and evaluate nutritional support and pharmacokinetic regimens.

Utilizes radiographic techniques to obtain diagnostic images.

The nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement. Assists in clerical functions as necessary.
