The RN Program Coordinator, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) is responsible for the coordination of efficient, safe, and timely patient care to patients served at DMH. The Coordinator actively participates in the development and implementation of goals, strategies, and tactics to support the continued growth and success of the DMH Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program. The Coordinator assists in the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) accreditation process and ensures continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements. The Coordinator serves as the designated MBS Program Coordinator for purposes of MBSAQIP accreditation. The Coordinator is a registered nurse who works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advance practice providers, health psychologists, registered nurses, nutritionists, medical assistants, and appointment schedulers to plan, direct, and evaluate the care provided to MBS patients. He/she must possess expertise in nursing practice, clinical care standards, and workflows in addition to MBSAQIP accreditation requirements. The Coordinator relies on evidence-based practice standards to assure consistent high quality care and a positive patient and family experience across the continuum of care. This involves coordination of meetings, data collection, and patient and staff education and care coordination with inpatient and outpatient teams at DMH. The Coordinator maintains a database for quality metrics and identifies and implements process improvement initiatives.

Coordinates the day-to-day operations for the Safety, Security, & Parking department, to include scheduling, counseling, and disciplining of assigned personnel while ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Performs support role for essential clinic functions. Performs assigned duties including cleaning equipment, infection control tasks, and supply management and organization. Performs other tasks as assigned to assist and support the clinical team.
The RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through assessment. The RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs. The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift.
Performs coding/DRG and abstracting functions for medical records, quality assessment and billing purposes. Codes all Huntsville Hospital medical records with ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes. Abstracts key data elements according to medical record review criteria. Performs coding quality assurance as needed.
Acts as collaborative member of the clinical team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Initiates patient care, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens. Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family. Assists coworkers and draws blood as needed.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs a broad array of nursing tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider. The individual provides direct patient care for diverse patient populations that vary in gender, age, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, locations, sexual lifestyle, and racial and ethnic background. The LPN implements technical nursing procedures according to established policies and procedures and plan of care, assists and reinforces routine patient education, and documents patient care appropriately. The LPN communicates and interacts with other team members to facilitate teamwork and delivery of quality care.
The nurse practitioner provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the NP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement. Assists in clerical functions as necessary.
