Job Summary   The advanced practice provider (APP) evaluates, manages and appropriately treats patients in the ED based on standards of practice in Emergency Medicine with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition, and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries in collaboration with the ED physician. The APP delivers comprehensive direct patient care by performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients. The APP also evaluates patients with major illnesses or injuries to determine if additional care at the next level is necessary.   Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.   The APP will see lower acuity patients independently and will be responsible for all aspects of care and disposition. The GYN Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) competencies include the fundamental knowledge, skills and expertise required to proficiently (a) participate in the care of patients with a past, current, or potential diagnosis of cancer, (b) assist patients with cancer, families and caregivers to overcome healthcare system barriers, and (c) provide education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer continuum. The ONN is cognizant of the psychosocial and financial impact that disease and hospitalization has on the patient and family and acts as an advocate to identify and obtain needed resources and support. Oncology Nurse Navigators have expertise in nursing practice and ensure continuing expertise through clinical experience and continuing education. The complexity of the role requires a high level of autonony.

Facilitates resource management activities for inpatients based on identified patients. Coordinates patient’s transition from hospital to home through collaboration with physicians, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to enhance continuity of patient care, promote cost effective utilization of resources and enhance patient, nurse and physician satisfaction. Performs quality echocardiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision.  Uses independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to perform state-of-the art diagnostic ultrasound procedures. The Emergency Medical Tech.- BASIC performs a wide variety of patient care activities related to patients being treated and transported to the hospital by ambulance. The EMT-BASIC also performs the responsibilities of driving emergency vehicles providing due regard for the safety of others while operating the ambulance. The EMT–BASIC performs patient care activities when attending to the patient in the patient compartment of the ambulance. The EMT-Basic performs Life Support procedures within their scope of practice as approved by the Alabama Department of Public Health EMS Division..
