Conducts routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performs related duties, following established standards and practices. Under limited supervision, performs blood tests and studies morphology of constituents of blood to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs various bacteriological mycological virological and parasitological tests to provide data on cause and progress of disease.
Communication of the understanding of why specimen collection requirements are what they are is key to success. The position requires the ability to maintain any equipment used by the phlebotomy team, train staff, manage the schedule with adequate coverage as needed, assess competency, interview, select new team members, evaluate staff performance, and manage disciplinary action as needed in compliance with department and hospital policies. The position may require teaching, purchasing, managing inventory, writing and implementing procedures and other duties as may arise.
Maintains established standards of care, policies, objective, and goals in administering professional nursing care to all patients needing ICU, PCU, or IDU services. The RN is accountable for the outcome of patient care delivered during the assigned shift.
