Responsible for supervising the Sleep Disorders Laboratory, technicians and technologist in accordance with specifications of American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Association of Polysomnographic Technologist (APT) and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsible for abstracting data and submitting it to the assigned database within established timeframes. Deliver quality patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding person, financial, medical, or employment of patients, families, and employees of DRMC. Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and DRMC. Provide education to staff regarding data outcomes and changes. RNs on our 38 bed Mother/Baby unit provide family centered couplet care. Shortly after delivery, a dedicated team of nurses help mom and baby with skin-to-skin bonding and breastfeeding. The Mother Baby unit allows for rooming-in, lactation support, and designated quiet hours. The Mother/Baby RN is skilled in assessing, educating, and caring for postpartum mothers and newborns. The RN identifies patient needs, prioritizes care based on assessments, and is accountable for patient care delivered during the assigned shift. The Mother/Baby RN collaborates and effectively communicates with multidisciplinary team members. The Mother/Baby RN will receive ongoing education and training related to maternal/newborn care and breastfeeding.

The Patient Care Aide(PCA) works under the direction of the RN/LPN. The responsibilities of the Patient Care Aide include providing direct patient care and maintaining patient care standards. Prepares patients for surgery by performing diagnostic test required by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, documenting past medical/surgical history and current home medications and reporting abnormal results to the appropriate person (surgeon, nurse practitioner, anesthesia evaluator, etc.).  The pre-admission RN also prepares patients for the cath lab and other hospital admissions.

Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff the Health Care Assistant supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally assists staff, physicians, visitors and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed. Patient Care activities include vital signs, activities of daily living, transport, and transfer of patients to include discharge. Clerical support includes directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls, entering patient charges in the computer system, maintaining patient charts, unit files and secretarial supply levels and being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Job Summary  Acts as collaborative member of the clinical team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Responsible for registration, insurance verification, scheduling, and answering of telephone. Initiates patient care assessments, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens.  Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family.  Returns patient phone calls.

This position represents patient care directed toward Step Down areas and general care areas and will work under direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.

We are a 55 bed licensed unit, with an open bay layout with 3 different alcoves, we also have a Kids Care Transport Team, and the only state-certified infant nutrition lab in North Alabama where many of our babies' feedings are carefully and securely prepared by specially trained staff.. We collaborate with many disciplines including Respiratory therapist, family support liaison, registered dietitians, therapy services (speech, physical, occupational, and music), trained child life specialist, pharmacy, and lactation nurses.    The Neonatal RN is skilled in providing critical care to premature and sick newborns. The Occupational Therapist assumes primary responsibility for evaluation of the patient, planning, implementing, supervising, reevaluating and changing the treatment program.  The therapist maintains adequate records and documents the appropriate progress reports and patient education.  The therapist supervises support staff and students as assigned.

The Department Secretary works under the general supervision of the Director.  Performs various secretarial duties and screening tasks in accordance with established procedures.
