The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs a broad array of nursing tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider. The individual provides direct patient care for diverse patient populations that vary in gender, age, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, locations, sexual lifestyle, and racial and ethnic background. The LPN implements technical nursing procedures according to established policies and procedures and plan of care, assists and reinforces routine patient education, and documents patient care appropriately.  The LPN communicates and interacts with other team members to facilitate teamwork and delivery of quality care.

Communicates data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice.  Serves as a liaison between clinicians, ancillary departments, and Information Technology (IT) to align clinical and IT standards with department workflows, processes, and policies. Acts as a change agent for hospital leaders and clinicians to promote adoption of new processes and technologies. Serves as the clinical leader for projects involving technology changes that impact nursing and vice versa with the clinical team members. Ensures appropriate clinical leaders are included in decisions involving information technology. Coordinate clinical processes and workflows across the organization that involve both nursing and information technology.  Serves as a clinical informatics expert to directors/managers and staff. Evaluates and coordinates the education plan to ensure all clinical staff are trained. Ensures policies and procedures are updated that involve information technology.

Monitors drug therapy to improve patient outcome and quality of care, recommends rational and cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic alternatives and provides accurate and efficient medication distribution.  Implements and evaluates nutritional support and pharmacokinetic regimens. Supervises pharmacy technical staff.
