The Phlebotomy Supervisor position requires a detailed understanding of the laboratory, therefore the supervisor should meet the minimum years of experience. The Phlebotomy supervisor is responsible for the performance of laboratory procedures conducted in specific sections of the clinical laboratory in accordance with the policies and procedures that are in effect. The Phlebotomy supervisor may well be expected to perform other functions not specified. There are other duties such as teaching, purchasing, inventorying, writing procedures, etc. that could be logical assignments for this position depending on the area in which the individual excels.
Responsible for clinical, consultative and educational activities that identifies and facilitates processes to address the learning needs of staff. Accountable for developing and monitoring clinical orientation for nursing services, policies and procedures, and opportunities for staff development. Works closely with Education Director and departmental educators to ensure quality.

Depending upon the needs of the physician office, the Medical Assistant may serve in the capacity of a clinical medical assistant or office receptionist.

The phlebotomist works under the immediate supervision of the Medical Technologist/Technician, is primarily responsible for the phlebotomy procedures, including veni-punctures, finger sticks, heel sticks, bleeding times, urine collection and drug screen collections. The phlebotomist is also responsible for processing in the reference lab reports and for sorting/charting various lab results. The phlebotomist is expected to assist in certain clerical duties, such as running daily reports, assisting with the out-patients, taking orders off of the computer, putting up supplies and cleaning their trays and any work area.
