Monitors drug therapy to improve patient outcome and quality of care, recommends rational and cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic alternatives and provides accurate and efficient medication distribution. Implements and evaluates nutritional support and pharmacokinetic regimens. Supervises pharmacy technical staff.

This position administers life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting, in accordance with statewide Treatment Protocols and HEMSI Medical Control Physicians, as authorized and directed by physician and/or paramedic.

Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department’s policies and procedures. Promotes optimal patient outcomes by assisting with medication reconciliation.  Interviews patients and reviews medication-related documentation for the purpose of compiling a medication history for patients being admitted to the hospital.  Compiled history information is entered into the patient’s electronic health record for the purpose of facilitating medication reconciliation by the admitting provider.  May perform a variety of functions which impact the medication reconciliation process and patient care.  Seeks assistance/clarification from a pharmacist with any questions or issues that may arise.
