The advanced practice provider provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
Acts as collaborative member of the clinical team in providing continuity of and quality patient care. Initiates patient care, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens. Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family. Assists coworkers and draws blood as needed.
Maintains established levels of laboratory supplies and equipment. Assists in establishing and maintaining a system of records for all equipment and supplies. Maintains a clean and safe environment in the department. Acts as a liaison between laboratory and materials management department. Maintains knowledge of current resources available to the department. Assists with other duties as assigned.

Responsible for coordinating pulmonary diagnostics for HH Main and Women’s and Children’s facilities. Responsible for aiding in the education of staff as well as educational functions for nursing. Aides with system updates, staff education and planning related to The Joint Commission. Assists the director and dept manager in strategic planning of the department and aides in the development of new procedures. This position has a direct involvement in maintaining Joint Commission readiness.
