AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit at the Women/Children campus. The AICU offers a challenging workflow for RN’s.  AICU receives a variety of patients that includes primarily critical Medical patients, but also Antepartum, Postpartum, GYN Oncology, GYN, ENT, and any adult patient at WC that requires intensive monitoring.  The RN’s in AICU are trained to care for a variety of critical situations including hemorrhage, critical OB, CRRT,...

Interviewers’ skills require knowledge of our admission criteria, local resources available for non – admits, good communication skills, and ability to engage the patient. Demonstrated ability to utilize diagnostic criteria to assign a diagnostic impression. Keeps clear and accurate written documentation. Knowledge and ability to document using appropriate psychiatric terminology.

 The Scrub Assistant, under the guidance of the RN provides services to surgical patients, maintaining an aseptic environment.  The scrub assistant assists in the transporting of patients.

Prepares and maintains patient charts and appropriate forms.  Maintains patient logbook.  Frequently answers telephone.  Must demonstrate courtesy and professionalism.  Occasionally assists in patient transport.  Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
