The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is an 11 bed ICU that cares for critically ill children at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children. The PICU is staffed by RNs, NPs, and Pediatric Intensivist who work closely together with a supportive multidisciplinary care team to provide acute care to children from 0-18 years of age.  We offer a progressive educational program to train staff in pediatric critical care to include monthly inservices from our physicians. AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit at the Women/Children campus. The individual provides direct patient care for diverse patient populations that vary in gender, age, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, locations, sexual lifestyle, and racial and ethnic background. The LPN implements technical nursing procedures according to established policies and procedures and plan of care, assists and reinforces routine patient education, and documents patient care appropriately.  The LPN communicates and interacts with other team members to facilitate teamwork and delivery of quality care.

The RN Case Manager is to support the physician and interdisciplinary team in facilitating patient care, with the underlying objective of enhancing the quality of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction while managing the cost of care and providing timely and accurate information to payers. This role integrates and coordinates Utilization management, care coordination and discharge planning functions. The Case Manager is accountable for a designated patient caseload and plans effectively in order to meet patient needs, manage the length of stay, and promote efficient use of resources.  

Responsible for conducting Psychosocial Assessments, group therapies, and other classes, teach group skills to unit staff (as needed); incorporate knowledge in identifying patients’ needs in developing and implementing multi-disciplinary treatment plans. Coordinates patient’s stay from admission to discharge through collaboration with physicians, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to enhance continuity of patient care, promote cost utilization of resources and enhance patient, nurse and physician satisfaction.

The Department Assistant is the first person the patient sees and, therefore, must present a caring and friendly attitude. He/she answers the telephone and relays messages to appropriate  departments or personnel.  The Department Assistant is capable of using the computer software to input patient and billing information.  The Department Assistant is responsible for the collection of any monies and the posting of such to the correct patient account.  Perform opening an closing procedures of the facility as scheduled.
