Overview

The Emergency Services IT Clinical Liaison will be responsible for assisting the Emergency Department leadership team promote high quality cost effective medical care, patient satisfaction, and healthcare provider/staff satisfaction by facilitating the efficient use of computers and clinical information technologies.  Responsibilities include: ensuring that data collection, abstraction and analysis occurs which drives the organization's performance improvement strategies. Serve as interface with the clinical staff, appropriate departments and committees for the purpose of ensuring coordination in planning, development, implementation and ongoing support of new and existing clinical informatics initiatives. Responsible for the overall coordination, implementation and support of clinical informatics changes and services, particularly to address the clinical needs of the patients and support the practice of the clinical staff. Contribute to the development and execution of strategies to move Crestwood Medical Center toward a fully integrated computerized patient record. IT Clinical Liason will assist in achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance including TJC preparation, CMS, State and other regulatory bodies as necessary.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  1. Evaluates existing methodologies with respect to procedures, workflow, and forms in clinical departments when defining a new feature or enhancement.
  2. Follows established pattern of system standards during development process.
  3. Conducts throughrough review of ED patient charts and identify documentation gaps as well as 
  4. Contributes to clinical systems training materials development and performs clinical systems training when needed.
  5. Instructs hospital personnel in the capabilities and potential uses of clinical systems
  6. Assists the ED Director/Manager in preparing and presenting new/change requests for Clinical Systems. 
  7. Coordinates the review and approval process for order sets changes.
  8. Assists with communication of Order Set Guidelines and Standardization
  9. Facilitates order set standardization Initiatives
  10. Flexibility in planning and managing projects with the ability to oversee and coordinate various activities concurrently, anticipate changes and adjust accordingly in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  12. Ability to work with practice providers.
  13. Ability to analyze and interpret complex data.
  14. Ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports.

  17. Ability to identify barriers, escalating when necessary and proposing appropriate solutions.
  18. Uses analytical reasoning to interpret and evaluate qualitative and quantitative information for statistical analysis, while identifying patterns and essential issues.
  19. Required ability to work collaboratively with internal contacts and external entities to achieve deliverables.
  20. Ability to work in an unsupervised environment, effective time management skills, logical problem solving and analytical skills with demonstrated attention to detail.

Qualifications

Required

Education:

Require nursing degree from an accredited college or university.  Prefer Bachelors degree from an accredited college of university in a clinical discipline (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, medical technology).  Preferred candidate will be an RN with working knowledge of information technologies. 

Experience:

Require recent experience in a clinical setting required. Healthcare information system or related information system experience preferred. Management experience preferred.  Extensive knowledge of current clinical information technology and applications preferred.  Demonstrated experience in working with clinical information systems.  Ability to adapt to new situations, set priorities, and utilize problem-solving techniques with minimal direction and appropriate collaboration.  Multiple years experience in managing or working in a clinical informatics setting strongly preferred.

Additional skills/abilites:

Excellent ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of diverse individuals and groups both internal and external to organization.  Interpersonal skills for effective interactions with user department managers and staff.  Excellent project management skills, including facilitation and coordination of cross-organizational work groups or teams. Consensus builder with the ability to see and understand multiple perspectives, and drive the diverse needs toward a common view of clinical information technologies usage. Current knowledge of   Healthcare issues, JCAHO requirements, HIPAA requirements, trends, and needs related to nursing a plus.  Demonstrated strong verbal, written and behavioral communication skills.  Ability to evaluate patient care processes, redesign and implement more effective patient care processes.  Ability to manage a stressful work environment.  Ability to proactively manage resources and workload to accomplish goals.  Clearly understand and describe the clinical process of patient in a healthcare setting from admission to discharge.  Understand and describe the varying clinical roles that provide patient care in our healthcare organization.  Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.  Ability to utilize email, Pulse, and internet resources.
