Overview

The roles and responsibilities of the Critical Care Paramedic include personal safety and thesafety of others, patient assessment and emergency care; safe lifting and moving, patienttransport and transfer, record keeping and data collection, and patient advocacy. A Critical CareParamedic must demonstrate leadership qualities; play a role in mentoring by teaching andproviding feedback to other Paramedics/EMT’s. Must be qualified to care for high acuity patientswhile demonstrating exceptional patient care skills. Must have the ability to effectivelycommunicate with physicians and other agencies/departments.

· Exceptional patient assessment skills

· Exceptional airway management skills and knowledge

· Ability to provide care to high acuity patients

· Ability to provide ventilator management

· Ability to manage various IV pumps

· Ability to manage the administration of multiple medications and blood products simultaneously

· Knowledge of various medications associated with emergency and/or critical care

· Must be approved by the EMS Medical Director through continued evaluation

Qualifications

Education: Current Alabama license as a Critical Care Paramedic. FPC/CCP-C, ACLS, PALS, BLS, BTLS/PHTLS Experience: 3 years as a licensed Paramedic. 1 year as a primary care provider in the pre-hospital environment Additional Skills/Abilities: capable of working overtime as required; flexible to scheduling to meet the department and hospital staffing needs. Available for on-call when required. Possess knowledge of, or the ability to gain, skills necessary to administer care under critical care protocols and guidelines established by the medical director and/or the ADPH. This includes, but not limited to, specialized equipment, advanced medications, intubation, IV and intraosseous access, advanced cardiac monitoring, complex ventilator management, providing dynamic patient assessments, radiology interpretation, rapid decision making and planning.
