The Cancer Data Specialist is responsible for reporting all confirmed cases of cancer and benign brain related tumors to the Alabama Statewide Cancer Registry (ASCR) and coordinating bi-weekly Tumor Board (Cancer Conference) meetings.
The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record. Classification systems include ICD-10-CM, ICD-9-CM and current CPT edition, and all coding is in accordance with official coding guidelines from the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, and the Health Information Management Association. All work is carried out in accordance with the Health Information Management department and Decatur Morgan approved policies and procedures.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:Education: This specialist must have 2 year college degree in related field, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, or possess equivalent training/experience in coding and cancer registry nomenclatures/systems
Experience: 2 years experience in the medical record field preferably in cancer registry. Must possess in-depth knowledge of medical and anatomical terminology. |
