Performs a variety of duties from clerical functions of a nursing unit according to the nursing service policies and procedures and facilitates communication between the nursing staff and other hospital departments, physicians, and visitors. Performs a variety of duties to assist in surgery and setting up delivery tables in Labor and Delivery. Responsible for managing/monitoring sterile fields and assist the surgeon during the surgical procedure in the OB OR. Provides sterile instrumentation and supplies according to AORN guidelines. Performs ordering and maintenance of supplies on the unit.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
Preferred – previous experience as a unit secretary acceptable – other related experience supportive of the ability to be trained to perform duties. Computer knowledge and skills or the ability to be trained. On the job training and/or previous experience as an Operating Room Technician.
Additional Skills/Abilities:
CPR certification or capability to certify within 3 months. Capable of communicating verbally with the staff, patients, and visitors. Administrative skills: effective telephone skills, intercom skills, maintaining patient records. Office skills: fax, computer, printer, and photocopier. Capable of working overtime as required. Able to read, write, and speak the English language. In the OR, capable of handling critical and emergent situations, pressure due to multiple demands. Flexible to take call for unplanned cesarean sections. Demonstrates basic knowledge if anatomy and physiology of tissue handling.
