Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  1. Accurately interprets physician orders; including dosing, allergies, interactions and patient profile review.
  2. Accurately dispenses medications at the campus/ area assigned in a timely manner, in the appropriate quantities, using the appropriate techniques (ie: aseptic technique for IV admixture, appropriate paperwork for controlled substances).
  3. Performs clinical functions appropriate to the campus/ area assigned; including but not limited to – renal dosing, kinetic dosing, profile review, and patient education.
  4. Assists with inventory management as appropriate for special order items, conversion to formulary items, and processing out of dates.
  5. Provides appropriate drug information to physicians, nurses, and patients.
  6. Appropriately utilizes Pyxis
  7. Directs and supervises work of pharmacy technicians appropriately.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: computer skills with word& XL

Education:  BS or Pharm D from an accredited college of Pharmacy

Alabama State Board of Pharmacy Parenteral Certification needed. Must obtain training if not currently certified (Samford offers periodically).

Experience: Hospital experience preferred, but new graduate is eligible with hospital rotations
