The physician assistant works in any setting that is within the scope of his or her supervising physician’s practice.  The supervising physician delegates only tasks and procedures that are within their scope of practice, which is defined for the purpose of this summary as those tasks and procedures that the supervising physician is qualified by training or experience to perform.  The decision to permit the physician assistant to perform a task or procedure under direct or indirect supervision is made by the supervising physician based on reasonable medical judgment.  It is the supervising physician’s responsibility to ascertain if the physician assistant is knowledgeable and skilled in performing the tasks and procedures assigned.

Education: Graduate of a Board approved Surgical Physician Assistant program. Healthcare Provider BLS is required within the orientation period. ACLS required one year from hire.

Experience:  Requires current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Alabama.  Successful completion of the Physician Assistants National Certifying Examination is highly preferred.

2. Ability to use effective interpersonal relation skills when working with a variety of people and situations.
3. Ability to work in a fast paced environment and adjust to continuing changes in the daily work schedule.
4. Absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of surgical procedures.
5. Must be able to display a positive attitude, cheerfulness, and the willingness to assist when communicating with the public.
