Overview

Job Summary:

 

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values.  In addition the wound and ostomy nurse provides oversight and direct care of patients with pressure ulcers and other skin/tissue defects as well as inpatients with ostomy devices.

Responsibilities

Key Reponsibilities/Functions:

  1. Provide wound and ostomy care services to inpatients
  2. Participate in quality improvement initiatives for ostomy and wound care
  3. Administer medications and intravenous infusions
  4. Provide effective patient and family education
  5. Maintain medical records
  6. Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills
  7. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education Required

·         Graduate of an Approved Nursing Program required.

·         BCLS must be obtained during orientation period.

Additional Skills/Abilities

·         Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.

·         Must be able to use computer terminal, fax machine and copy machine.

·         Must be able to work well in a team environment.

Experience

·         Minimum of one year clinic experience in direct patient care setting.

·         Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
