Overview

Under the general supervision of the System Payer Contracting Manager and Director Payer Contracting, the Specialist will work to achieve the objectives of the department including managed care contracting, financial analysis, accessing payer performance, ensuring compliance with contracts, process improvement, project management, and staff education for specific lines and supporting departments (revenue centers) throughout the organization and its affiliates. These responsibilities will be for all hospital, ancillary and professional providers in the Health System. The Specialist will serve as a point of contact for external insurance plan representatives in settling escalated claim and account disputes. Key responsibilities include interacting with Revenue Cycle, Administration, Department Leadership, Physician Network and Financial Stakeholders, supporting and understanding clinical and billing processes, identifying and improving processes to allow capturing of all potential revenue from the negotiated contracts. The Specialist will be provided education and communication to financial staff regarding processes, auditing and reporting outcomes of contracts, and utilizing all internal and external resources in order to accomplish and sustain cash improvements. The Contract Specialist will support the Contract Manager in maintaining all Managed Care databases included but not limited to, contract inventory and physician rosters for the System. The Specialist is expected to independently lead projects and produce measurable sustained outcomes. Using national best practices, this position proactively implements and supports system Managed Care/Payer Contracting improvements.

Qualifications

Education required: Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Health Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Business field

Experience: Comparable combinations of education and/or experience will be considered. At least 3 years’ experience working with insurance, managed care contracting, patient accounting, case management, internal audit, coding and/or process improvement. Combination of work and educational record that demonstrates knowledge of:

  • Clinical and financial processes within a hospital based healthcare system
  • Bridging clinical and patient financial data to improve outcomes
  • Clear effective communication skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and healthcare billing guidelines
  • Auditing, project management, and process improvement techniques

Additional skills/abilities: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and working within a networked IT system
