Overview

Under the supervision of the HIM Director is responsible for strategically managing the daily operations of the denials process for Marshall Medical Centers. The Denials Management Coordinator is responsible for coordinating denials and appeals through a cross-departmental organizational structure, including all administrative and clinical functions.

The position requires an extensive knowledge of medical billing and collection processes, systems, and procedures. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS coding systems as well as be familiar with DRG’s. This position would include daily monitoring of appeal decision time frames, assigning reviews to physician advisors for medical necessity reviews, and entering all information in to appropriate tracking software. The Coordinator would be responsible for following the denials and appeals process from the time the request is received to when an outcome is determined including but not limited to updating financials in the tracking software. This position would also require creating reports and presenting on denials and appeals information.

This position requires frequent interaction with all levels within the organization to review and discuss denials and problem solve any areas of opportunity that are identified. This would include reviewing front-end processes to identify areas of improvement to prevent future denials from occurring. The Denials Management Coordinator would also be expected to be the liaison between the hospital and auditing entities to ensure effective and efficient outcomes are achieved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in area of specialty preferred. Bachelor’s degree along with comparable combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hospital revenue cycle management experience is preferred with 10 or more years being strongly preferred.
