Overview

Position Summary:
Decatur Morgan Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Hospitalist team. The APP (either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will provide high-quality, evidence-based care to hospitalized adult patients in collaboration with our physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. This position plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive inpatient care, improving patient outcomes, and supporting our mission to provide excellent service to the community.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
• Perform comprehensive history and physical exams on adult inpatients.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions under the supervision or collaboration of the Hospitalist physicians.
• Develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, and order appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures.
• Monitor and reassess patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed.
• Participate in daily patient rounds, handoffs, and interdisciplinary care planning.
• Provide timely and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Respond to emergencies and changes in patient condition in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams to provide updates and education.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
 
Licensure & Certification:
Active Alabama license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
National certification (AANP, ANCC for NPs; NCCPA for PAs).
BLS and ACLS certifications required.
 
Experience:
Inpatient or acute care experience preferred but not required.
New graduates with strong clinical rotations in hospital medicine may be considered.
 
        Skills:
Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in using EMR systems (experience with Meditech Expanse a plus).
