Overview

Assists clinical pharmacists in providing an accurate and timely medication distribution system.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, stickers, and stocks daily medication order. Ensures barcode recognition in facility systems.
  • Performs medication cabinet refill and out-of-date checks on all items. 
  • Maintains assigned nursing station med room in compliance with policy.
  • Troubleshoots medication cabinet issues and resolves when possible. 
  • Investigates any controlled substance discrepancy in assigned area.
  • Repackages medications into unit-dose packaging and documents appropriate lot number and expiration labeling.
  • Performs non-sterile compounding of topical and oral products.
  • Performs sterile compounding of intravenous products utilizing aseptic technique.
  • Track and logs department temperatures and humidity measurements.
  • Assists in training of new pharmacy technicians.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
 
Registration: Must be registered with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician within 30 days of hire date and registration must be in good standing. Technician training must be completed within 6 months of licensure from an Alabama State Board of Pharmacy approved provider.
 
Certification: National Certification with PTCB or ExCPT is preferred but not required.
 
Experience: Pharmacy experience preferred but not required. 
 
Additional Skills/Abilities:  Must have excellent communications skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
