Overview

The Renal Specialist Level I will identify the needs and priorities of the dialysis and apheresis patient through assessment. The Renal Specialist Level I plans and delegates care based on patient needs.  The Renal Specialist Level I evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes.  The Renal Specialist Level I is accountable for outcomes of patient care of assigned patients.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  1. Administers treatments to the dialysis and apheresis patient.
  2. Performs basic assessment of the patient and care of the patient throughout dialysis and/or apheresis treatment.
  3. Operates dialysis and apheresis machines including troubleshooting of problems
  4. Instructs the ICU staff in the care of the CRRT patient.
  5. Teaches the patient and the family disease process and the care of the access.
  6. Assists physician with insertion of a temporary access.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.

Experience: Prefer ICU and/or previous Dialysis experience.  Responsibility of the Dialysis staff to give supporting documentation for Renal Specialist II to the Dialysis Unit Charge Nurse. 

Call is required.
