Job Summary:
Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. Additionally, the health unit assistant under the direct supervision of the licensed nurse performs various duties to assist in care of patients. These duties include, but are not limited to, transcribing physician orders, answering and dispatching patient calls, answering the telephone and transferring calls to the appropriate personnel, maintaining supply inventories, office equipment, and overall order and organization of the nurse’s station
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions1. Under the direct supervision of licensed nurses accurately transcribes physician’s orders, placing orders to other departments by the correct method and in a timely manner 2. Courteously answers patient calls giving the patient reassurance and immediately notifying nursing personnel of patient’s needs 3. Initiates, assembles and maintains charts from admission to discharge. Enters all pertinent information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) upon admission and through discharge. Following discharge, prepares the chart for transport to health information management. 4. Knowledgeable of and performs computer applications as appropriate to clerical responsibilities 5. Maintain appropriate inventories of forms and supplies 6. Maintain a clean and orderly work area 7. Directs visitors to patient rooms in a courteous manner while maintaining confidentiality. |
Education: High school graduate or GED.
Experience: Previous experience in clerical or receptionist position helpful. Hospital experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred, but not required.
