Overview

Cross-trained clinical and clerical position.

 

Acts as collaborative member of the clinic team by providing quality patient care and service.  Initiates patient care upon arrival, records vital signs and prepares patient for physical exam. Assists provider when needed and provides patient education and support.

 

Assists with operations of a multi-physician clinic, to include the effective management of clinical systems, human resources, financial and environmental management. Provides clerical support for providers and helps the front office in answering the phone, scheduling patient visits, procedures, and tests. Continually exhibits the ability to work with others for the betterment of customer service and patient care.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

 

Clinical:

  1. Greets and screens patient for appropriate information, preparing for examination by provider.
  2. Assesses patient’s reason for visit and accurately documents in medical record.
  3. Assists provider in examination, treatment and referral of patient, preparing necessary paperwork, equipment, etc.
  4. Initiates testing ordered by provider, to include completion of paperwork and education.
  5. Gives injections to patients as ordered by the provider.
  6. Performs venipunctures, finger/heel sticks for ordered lab tests and performs CLIA waived tests/quality controls.
  7. Reconciliation of tests and lab ordered.
  8. Calls prescription information as necessary and under direction of provider.
  9. Orders ambulatory tests, imaging, and procedures as directed by the provider.
  10. Maintains appropriate level of medical supplies and drugs, to include inventorying and ordering.
  11. Assists in referral management and making appointments for new patients.
  12. Maintains files of referral authorizations for consults.
  13. Develops and maintains a useful documentation system that complies with legal, regulatory, and quality management requirements

Clerical:

  1. Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  2. Communicates effectively with patients and/or family members to obtain needed patient information including updated patient information, insurance information, and other pertinent information.
  3. Responsible for excellence in customer service and ensuring patient needs are met.
  4. Answers telephone in a timely manner, screens calls, takes messages, consults, and provides information.
  5. Manages and maintains clinic schedules appropriately with updates for additions and cancelations.
  6. Responds to routine requests for information/service
  7. Adheres to office scheduling policies while making and canceling appointments, including but not limited to, office visits, tests, and procedures.
  8. Obtain pre-certification and/or referrals for patient appointments when necessary.
  9. Calls no shows/cancelled appointments to reschedule as needed.
  10. Verifies insurance for procedures, tests, and makes referrals as needed.
  11. Collects co-pays and payments on account balances and completes end of day deposit according to policy.

 

Comprehensive:

  1. Attends required meetings.  Participates in staff development and education activities.
  2. Completes assigned responsibilities in an appropriate time.
  3. Maintains work area and clinic space in neat and orderly manner.
  4. Maintain patient confidentiality and sensitive information.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Experience, and Skills Required:

 

Education:  High school diploma required

 

Experience:  Preferred 2 years work experience in a relevant healthcare setting. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification desirable. Word processing and computer experience required.

 

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Operate general office equipment and multi-phone system. 
  • Sort and file materials, records, and paperwork.
  • Read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Communicate clearly in speech and writing including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
