Overview

The Child Life Specialist identifies the psychosocial needs of the pediatric patient and provides activities that are developmentally appropriate to satisfy those needs.  Executes therapeutic and recreational activities and evaluates the patient’s response/progress toward normal age and appropriate behavior.  Schedules volunteers to ensure smooth operation of the Child Life Program during the daytime hours.  Act as liaison for activities from the community.

 

The Student Coordinator oversees all aspects of student programing to ensure adherence to the Association of Child Life Professional’s clinical experiences guidelines and requirements. The coordinator is responsible for the educational development and guidance of the student in the clinical setting, and serves as a liaison between the clinical setting and academic institutions.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Require Bachelor’s degree in family and child development, child life or related field from an accredited college or university.  Internship in Child Life.  Supervised by Certified Child Life Specialist.  Child Life Certification required or eligibility to sit for the certification exam. Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

 

EXPERIENCE:

4+ years of clinical experience in child life, and maintains professional certification.
