Overview

Responsible to the Manager Sterile Processing for the development and sustainment of the Quality Assurance, Education, and Training systems of the St3erile Processing Department.  The QA Manager/Educator will be directly support staff at the Sterile Processing Facility, Huntsville Hospital Main Campus Turn Center, and Women & Children Hospital Turn Center in assuring all HH and AAMI policies, procedures, and standards are being met or exceeded.  The QA Manager will keep the organization abreast of the most current standards in Sterile Processing and incorporate those practices in the policies and training of the department.  Training and documentation of competencies will be a primary focus of the QA Manager as well as auditing performance to verify execution of procedures and training.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama Licensure required

 

Certification: IAHCSMM certification in Healthcare Leadership required within one year of hire.

 

Experience:  Extensive Operating Room and Sterile Processing experience required.  Demonstrates leadership ability.  Management experience desirable.

 

Additional Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have in depth experience and knowledge of sterile processing and instrumentation.
  • Must be familiar with OR procedures and practices as they apply to utilization of instrumentation.
  • Must understand how to develop and optimize QA systems to establish consistent practices throughout the department.
  • Must be well versed as the SME in Joint Commission and AAMI standards.
  • Must have customer service orientation, including the ability to communicate in English with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and the ability to use effective interpersonal and teamwork skills when working with a variety of people and situations.
  • Must be able to organize work load, accomplish goals and objectives, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to problem solve effectively, detect problems, gather and organize data, consider alternatives and commit to appropriate action.
  • Must be able to establish performance/developmental goals, coach performance, provide training and evaluate performance for trainees.
  • Must be able to establish priorities, delegate when required and follow up on problem solving, including the ability to adapt to an often stressful and rapidly changing environment.
  • Must have quality orientation and be attentive to detail.
  • Must have the ability to use discretional judgment in planning work, assessing results, solving problems and taking or recommending action to negotiate for positive results with staff, vendors, and physicians.
  • Must be p.c. computer literate and have a working knowledge of   WordPerfect, Lotus, Microsoft Word, Excel, and SPM applications
