Overview

Job Summary: 

 

Manages pharmacy technicians and various operations of the department. This position will primarily deal with medication reconciliation.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

·         Uses aseptic technique to accurately prepare IV medications. 

·         Refills pyxis accurately; including pulling correct medication from stock, appropriate quantity, complies with check off procedures, correctly places product in nursing are pyxis-verifying quantitites and expiration date.

·         Checks in daily medication order and appropriately processes items and invoices. Aware of process for missing items or special order items. Ensures all medications are properly stored.

·         Assists with quality management as directed: current with assigned unit inspections, PI projects, area cleaning, process out of date medications, crash cart inspections.

·         Accurately labels and/or packages medications; including patient specific items, unit dosing, compounding.

·         Makes timely deliveries of medications to patient care areas.

·         Answers the phone in a courteous manner and directs calls as appropriate. 

·         Assists with training new employees. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

Education:  High School Diploma or GED required.  Certification with PTCB required.

 

Registration:  Must be registered with AL State Board of Pharmacy and in good standing

 

Experience: Three years of Hospital Pharmacy Technician experience preferentially- experience at DMH.  Trained in all DMH inpatient pharmacy technician areas preferred.
