Overview

The Registered Nurse identifies patient’s needs and priorities for care through assessment.  The RN plans and delegates care based on patient needs.  The RN executes therapeutic physician orders and therapeutic nursing interventions.  The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes.  The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned care span.

Responsibilities

  • Able to verbalize proper indication for placement of a PICC/midline
  • Able to note any contraindications for placement and communicate those
  • Able to properly locate venous locations for PICC/midline insertions
  • Able to properly assess the patient prior to set-up and placement
  • Able to maintain proper sterile technique
  • Able to use ECG to verify PICC line placement
  • Able to properly educate the patient on risk, benefits and proper care of lines placed

Qualifications

Education:   

Current Alabama RN license or current RN multi state license.

 

Experience:

Fundamental clinical experience and/or previous employment clinical experience expected from a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Experience using ultrasound guidance for placement of midlines and peripherally inserted central lines preferred.

 

Additional Skill/Abilities:

 

  • CPR certification or eligibility/capability to certify within 3 months of employment.
  • Able to work under the following conditions:  contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances; exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness); subject to varying and unpredictable situations; handles emergency or crisis situations; may perform emergency care; occasionally subjected to irregular hours; occasional stress due to multiple calls and inquiries.  
  • Capable of working overtime as required/on call scheduling weekends.
  • Able to read, write and speak the English language. 

ACLS certification or within one year of employment.
