The School Teacher, under the supervision of the Clinical Services manager, provides pediatric patients with daily educational curriculum for children and adolescents as part of the Educational Services Program at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Additionally, this individual facilitates the requirements of participation in the Specialized Treatment Center Endorsement of the Alabama State Department of Education through coordinating enrollment in the STC and assisting pediatric patients with various educational and learning needs. The School Teacher serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions1. Under the direction of the Clinical Services Manager, is responsible for implementing the requirements of the Alabama Specialized Treatment Center educational regulations for pediatric patients admitted to Decatur Morgan Hospital West Campus. 2. Prepare course objectives and outline for the course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and school. 3. Demonstrates the ability to decide on the best use of methods and materials to help students acquire necessary skills, considering individual students’ different needs and abilities. 4. Demonstrates qualities of patience, understanding, trustworthiness, and attention to work. 5. Possesses a thorough knowledge of the subject matter. 6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. 7. Collaborates with treatment team members to ensure quality interdisciplinary plan of care for each patient. 8. Documents patient interactions and observations in an accurate and concise manner and in accordance with hospital guidelines. 9. Adheres to policies and procedures and demonstrates practices that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, coworkers, and staff. 10. CPR certification. 11. MOAB certification. |
1)Ability to communicate effectively with others 2) Knowledge of child and adolescent social and emotional development. 3)Knowledge of psychiatric illness and the special needs of the pediatric population.

Experience:
Minimum one year experience working with individuals aged four and above in an educational setting.
