Coordinates the total nursing care for patients admitted to the post anesthesia care unit (PACU). Participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care departments.
Maintains the standard of ASPAN for the basis of nursing care.
Coordinates nursing care based on arrhythmia recognition and treatment.
Has knowledge of normal growth and development stages.
Maintains competency in airway management and respiratory equipment, patients in altered stated of consciousness, types of fluid lines, types of anesthesia agents and types of anesthesia.
Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs, and problems. May assumes responsibility for department in absence of supervisor.
Assists supervisor with orientation, instruction/training, and supervision of subordinate personnel. Supervises students.
Attends required meetings, inservices, educational programs.
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
Assists team members in giving care to patients or administers direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals.
Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest.
Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
Participates actively in committees for improvement of nursing care.
Provides direct care and assessment on patients with ages varying from neonates, children, adolescents, and adults through the elderly.
Education: Graduate of state board School of Nursing with current Alabama or multi-state licensure
Experience: Must have a minimum of three years prior experience as a practicing RN. Critical skilled nursing care experience, required.
Additional Skill/Abilities: ACLS and PALS certifications required
