Overview

The Surgery Scheduler attends the OR desk, performs clerical and receptionist duties, schedules surgical procedures and facilitates communication between OR staff, in-house departments, physicians and their offices, other hospitals, patients, families and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately performs clerical duties related to the processing, scheduling, and coordinating of surgical services pertaining to the surgical patient. Maintain accurate departmental files, records and reports, including minutes and patient totals. Performs order entry for lab requests.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services. Assists in the maintenance and ordering of stock and office supply inventory.
  • Accurately demonstrates ability to process clinical information related to scheduling and posting of surgical cases. Accurately maintain and distribute surgery schedule; compiles and distributes On-Call schedules.
  • Understands processes and requirements for payroll system.  Utilizes process guidelines and procedure for entry, monitoring and adjusting payroll entries.
  • Act as liaison with related departments with changes to the surgical schedule. 
  • Performs work according to rules, regulations, policies and guidelines; complies with standards in the Code of Conduct.
  • Flexible to schedule; performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Education:   

High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Medical terminology preferred.

 

Experience: 

Sufficient previous office experience or clerical experience needed.
