In partnership with the RN, the Psychiatric Tech provides direct care to patients (adolescents to elderly). Provides basic comfort measures, collects data to contribute to the plan of care and carries out interventions at the direction of the RN

Education required: High School/GED completion

Experience: Previous psychiatric work experience preferred, or psychology education background

Additional skills/abilities: Administers nursing care to assigned patients according to care plans, policies, and procedures. Assists with patient admission, collection, and documentation of assessment database. Provides assistance with or takes measures to meet the patient's hygiene, comfort, activity and nutritional needs. Assists with patient discharge, collection and documentation of discharge assessment. Collaborates with the RN in the development of the patient's plan of care, identifying any change in patient's status and implementing appropriate interventions. Documents nursing care and patient's response to nursing interventions. Recognizes and reports significant changes or unexpected observations in the patients condition to the team leader.
