Overview

Job Summary

 

The advanced practice provider (APP) evaluates, manages and appropriately treats patients in the ED based on standards of practice in Emergency Medicine with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition, and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries in collaboration with the ED physician. The APP delivers comprehensive direct patient care by performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients. The APP also evaluates patients with major illnesses or injuries to determine if additional care at the next level is necessary.

 

Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.

 

The APP will see lower acuity patients independently and will be responsible for all aspects of care and disposition. This care will be billed under the APPs individual NPI number for

professional fee reimbursement.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  1. Must be a credentialed member of the Medical Staff.
  2. Collects patient data through integration from a wide variety of sources to formulate clinical judgments and decisions regarding appropriate recommendations and treatments.
  3. Analyzes the assessment data by prioritizing actual and/or potential health care problems in determining the diagnosis as the basis for designing interventions to promote the restoration of health.
  4. Collaborates with the health care team for high acuity patients in developing the multidisciplinary plan of care.
  5. Responsible for the development of a plan of care for lower acuity patients and the delivery of that plan.
  6. Is accountable for planning, implementing, and delegating therapeutic interventions identified in the plan of care.
  7. Evaluates the patient’s response to therapeutic interventions and makes a disposition to either the next level of care or discharge.
  8. Facilitates organizational resources that promote optimal patient outcomes.

Performs procedures as outlined in the Core privileges for Emergency Medicine APPs.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required

 

Education:  Completion of Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university.  Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP, current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and approval of the Decatur Morgan Hospital credentialing board.

Or

Completion of Physician Assistant

 

Additional Skill/Abilities:  BLS, ACLS, & PALS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
