Overview

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and radiologist, performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement. Responsibilities include knowledge of all Mammography / Radiology procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, Utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required, or set forth. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

 

1. Under the direction of a radiologist, produces high quality mammograms.

1.Performs mammography / Radiology procedures according to departmental protocols.
2. Positions patient and provides immobilization and positioning devices as needed.
3. Selects proper technical factors on an individual basis.
4. Performs routine and special views as needed.

 

2. Assures Image Quality meets all departmental and Hospital standards.

 

1. Monitor images produced and adjust density or contrast to improve image quality.
2. Review and evaluate film to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
3. Prepares all appropriate paperwork for interpretation.

4. Participate in all Mammography related QI, QA, and QC activities as required.
5. Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient records, generating charge slips as needed.

 

3. Provides for patient and personal safety.

 

1. Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated services with patients.
2. Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques; usingbeam restrictive devices; applying knowledge of exposure factors.
3. Ensures operation of mammography equipment by following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; notifies supervisor if repairs are needed.
4. Uses proper body mechanics when lifting is required.
5. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with federal and state legal regulations and Joint Commission requirements.

 

4. Strives to reduce patient stress about exam, educates patient concerning procedure.

 

1. Explain procedures to patients, answers all patient questions.
2. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, demonstrates comforting, professional demeanor.
3. Demonstrates equipment and its uses to patient .
4. Educates patient about breast self exam


5. PACS


1. Completes all exams timely in PACS and Meditech

2. Properly performs procedure for making patient CD’s.

3. Verify that written physician order matches order in PACS.

4. Verifies all images are in PACS & Scans any required documents, and Adds additional study information in notes section as needed.


5. Checks work emails each day

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent, some college preferable, with satisfactory completion of an approved Radiologic technology program. The ARRT Registry must be passed and maintained. Mammography certification is preferred.
