Transports patients to and from the Imaging Department in a safe and efficient manner. Assists technologists in getting patients on and off of the examining table. Maintains effective communication regarding patient status to appropriate personnel. Maintains courteous communication with patients, their families and the Public.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions1. Transports patients in safe, efficient manner.
1. Secures “ticket to ride.”
2. Introduces self to patient and family.
3. Use two (2) identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity.
4. In coordination with Nursing staff determines most appropriate mode of transport according to patient condition.
5. Properly fills out Patient Transport log book.
2. Utilizes proper transfer techniques.
1. Uses safe and appropriate body mechanics.
2. Insures that adequate number of personnel are present.
3. Uses roller and slide transfer devices as appropriate.
4. Secures bed, stretcher, wheelchair prior to transfer.
3. Follows hospital guidelines for Infection Control Practices
1. Practices Universal Precautions in the care of patients.
2. Uses hand sanitizer before entering patient room.
3. Follows all standard precautions as posted.
4. Informs Technologists of standard precautions to be followed for individual patients.
4. Properly secures equipment that accompany patient.
1. Verifies and maintains proper oxygen flow rates.
2. Maintains proper position of IV bags.
3. Maintains proper position of chest tubes.
4. Maintains proper position of urinary drainage bags.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required
Education/Licensure: Must have high school diploma or GED.
Experience: No previous experience required, but preferred.
Additional Skills/Abilities: BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
