  • Overview

    Provides diagnostic quality images for MRI. Provides a safe environment for patients and staff.

    Responsibilities

    1. Follows prescribed protocols in administering general and specific MRI exams.
    2. Uses 2 patient identifiers excluding the room number.
    3. Prepares patients for MRI, explaining procedure, transferring patient to table, positioning patient and assisting patient at the end of the procedures. Applies immobilization devices as needed.
    4. Stays current with new MRI protocols. Inform Radiologist of complicated or abnormal procedures requiring a protocol.
    5. Become proficient with hospital and department clinical information systems by QC ing all images, completing exams, and documenting contrast (tech comments) and patient history (tech comments) on all exams.
    6. Ensures the Imaging Department is ready at all times for TJC, VHA, Risk mapping inspection.
    7. Abides by the HH and Imaging Services Policy and Procedures. (ie: time and attendance, smoking policy and MRI safety guidelines.
    8. Must understand MRI screening process and be able to consistently screen all patients prior to MRI procedures.
    9. Understands and abides by MRI safety procedures
    10. Understands basic MRI physics and can make changes to protocol as needed, based on patient’s condition and pathology.
    11. Prepares medication per each Physicians orders and labels all solutions/medications as required by TJC. Adhere to all Joint Commission standards.
    12. Transports patients to/from the floor if needed. Staff is required to have a face to

     face handoff with the patient’s nurse utilizing the ticket to ride.  Handoff must also  

           take place  when the patient transitions from one caregiver to another.

    1. Always use an approved hand antiseptic when you enter / exit a patient’s room or before / after you have contact with a patient.

    Always wash your hands with SOAP AND WATER when interacting with a patient on isolation / C-diff precautions or when your hands are visibly dirty.

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    High School Diploma or GED required.

    Graduate accredited radiology program.

    ARRT Licensure within 1 year of hire. 

    BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

     

    Experience:

    None required.

     

    Additional Skills/Abilities:

    Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
