    Job Summary 

    The Charge Capture Specialist I is responsible for the clerical support the surgery department by reviewing logging of surgical procedures, preparing patient charges, auditing records for accuracy, and maintaining records and preparing reports.  Other responsibilities include assisting visitors, physicians, and staff as necessary, providing effective communication within the operating room, maintaining a safe, orderly office environment and assisting in the orientation of new secretarial staff.


    Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

    1. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent, above average computer knowledge and skill set.
    2. EXPERIENCE: Previous secretarial/customer service role (1 year experience required).  Medical related experience preferred.  Above average computer knowledge required (Excel, Word).knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment and supplies helpful.
    • Must have above average verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must have knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
    • Must be computer literate, able to type 50 wpm minimum and have a working knowledge of Excel and Word applications.
    • Must be able to operate communication systems appropriately (telephones, fax, and scanners).
    • Must have customer service orientation – including the ability to communicate in English with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and the ability to use effective interpersonal and teamwork skills when working with variety of people and situations.
    • Must be able to organize work load, accomplish goals and objectives, and meet deadlines.
    • Must be able to establish priorities, delegate when required and follow up in problem solving—including the ability to adapt to an often stressful and rapidly changing environment.
    • Must have quality orientation and be attentive to detail. Ability to do problem solving and negotiate for positive results with staff and physicians.
    • Must be able to work independently in a quiet environmnent.
    • Must be able to multitask
