  • Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

    1. Responsible for selecting the appropriate educational curriculum and plans individual assignments for each adolescent and child in the program based on the developmental age and identified needs.
    2. Plans and implements alternative educational activities.
    3. Instructs student in the progress on an individual basis or as a group as the topic requires during the class period.
    4. Collaborates with treatment team members to ensure quality interdisciplinary plan of care for each patient.
    5. Assist in a variety of psychotherapeutic interventions as directed.
    6. Documents patient interactions and observation in an accurate and concise manner.
    7. Works with patient’s school system to maintain involvement in academic programs within confines of patient’s length of stay.
    8. Adheres to policies and procedures and demonstrates practices that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, coworkers, and staff.
    9. In collaboration with DMW nursing administration, establishes department goals and objectives in accordance with Decatur Morgan’s mission and the standards of psychiatric nursing.
    10. Supervises and manages the Activities Staff in planning and coordination of the daily schedule, activities, and curriculum for all ages. Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
    11. CPR certification.

     12. MOAB/CPI certification.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

    - Uses logical thinking and special skills to provide educational activities for patients.

    - Demonstrates ability to identify and interaction with developmental age of assigned patients.

    - Understands the psychological needs of patients ages 12 and older.

    - Effective communication skills

    - Follows and/or gives precise instructions.

    - Responds quickly in an emergency with appropriate action.

    - Records and interprets information accurately.

     

    Education:

    Bachelor level prepared.

     

    Experience:

    Two year experience teaching/instructing adolescents or an equivalent level of experience.
