  • Overview

    Couriers will provide transportation support to specific entities within the Huntsville Hospital Health System and/or Health Group of Alabama.  Responsibilities include the pickup and delivery of lab specimens, supplies, reports, and mail.  Other responsibilities include the transporting of patients, transporting of employees, greeting of customers (including valet), moving of requested departments, assisting with monthly fire extinguisher checks, and Hazardous surveillance checks.  In addition to performing these tasks in a very specific and timely manner, the Courier will also be responsible for documenting all pick-ups and maintaining accurate record files at all times.

    Responsibilities

    1. Be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.
    2. Follows directions and perform work according to department standards.
    3. Perform duties with little or no supervision.
    4. Complete duties during the assigned shift with few exceptions.
    5. Provide accurate and timely information using discretion and protect confidentiality of information.
    6. Maintain a cost conscious attitude to time usage, materials and supplies.
    7. Maintain equipment in proper working order.
    8. Demonstrate initiative toward being available to assist other hospital departments and team members when the need arises.
    9. Maintain a positive attitude and promote team work.
    10. Maintain an effective working relationship with other department employees and physicians

     

    1. Ability to operate postage and copy equipment as well as provide minor maintenance.

     

    12   Sort hospital mail by department in a timely and accurate manner.

     

    1. Responsible for collecting tokens and cash from parking decks in a timely manner.

     

    1. Transports items to and from Decatur Morgan facilities.

     

    1. Maintains a valid Alabama driver’s license and excellent driving record at all times.

     

    1. Reports all incidents involving the Decatur Morgan Hospital vehicle to immediate supervisor

    .

    1. Obtains any police reports of accidents involving Decatur Morgan Hospital vehicle.

     

    1. Obtains proper signatures for items delivered.

     

    1. Provide accurate and timely information using discretion and protect confidentiality of

           information.

     

    1. Access a situation, consider alternatives and choose an appropriate course of action.

     

    1. Attend and actively participate in all scheduled interdepartmental meetings, performance

          improvement activities as well as all mandatory infection control, blood borne pathogen, fire

          safety, hazardous material and electrical safety in-services as required.

     

    1. Comply with safety policies and procedures, reporting safety hazards and initiating

           appropriate action.

     

    1. Reliable and dependable, reporting to work on time and when scheduled.

     

    1. Not allow personal conflicts to interfere with work performance.

     

    1. Maintain a professional, well groomed appearance.

     

    1. Speak clearly with a pleasant tone of voice.

     

    1. Remain committed to the Decatur Morgan Hospital Compliance Program, conducting all

           business responsibilities with honesty and integrity.

     

    1. Perform additional duties as assigned.

     

    1. Follow all policies and procedures of DMH/HH Health System, Security, and Transport at all

           times. This includes adhering to the attendance policy.

     

    1. Performs all courier runs in a time manner, following criteria established by transport and

           avoiding inconvenience to patients/customers.

     

    1. Follow pick up schedule as designated.

     

    1. Maintains cleanliness of vehicles, both inside and out. Communicate all maintenance issues

           to the Fleet Manager.

     

    1. Utilize communication equipment effectively and professionally.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

    Education:   High School Diploma or equivalent.  Must be computer literate.

     

    Experience:  Inventory control, shipping and receiving helpful.  Organizational skills required to handle multiple tasks.  Interpersonal skills required to work with intradepartmental relations.
